Sean W. McDonald joined Weinberg, Roger & Rosenfeld in 2020. He is based in Las Vegas.
Mr. McDonald joined WRR from another union-side firm, bringing with him experience representing private- and public-sector labor unions and their related employee benefit funds. He has represented clients in state and federal courts, labor arbitrations, and administrative proceedings. He also has experience with regulatory compliance matters, governmental affairs, and appellate work.
On the union side, Mr. McDonald advises and represents unions, both public and private sector, on a wide variety of subjects, including organizing new contractors and members; contract negotiations; administering internal union affairs, policies, and programs; enforcing collective bargaining agreements; and the duty of fair representation. Mr. McDonald prosecutes grievance arbitrations and appears before administrative agencies, including the NLRB and Nevada EMRB, both in pre-complaint investigations and in administrative hearings. He also represents unions in both affirmative and defensive litigation.
On the employee benefits side, Mr. McDonald advises Taft-Hartley benefit fund trustees and personnel on a full range of issues, including drafting and review of plan documents, service provider contracts, participant communications, legal and regulatory compliance, and withdrawal liability. His litigation experience includes ERISA collections, including ancillary creditor-side bankruptcy work, and defense work, including benefit and breach of fiduciary duty claims.
Mr. McDonald received his juris doctor from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2012, graduating cum laude, after earning a B.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he likewise graduated cum laude with a major in Political Science and a minor in American History. During law school, Mr. McDonald served as a member of the Nevada Law Journal, and earned high-grade honors in Legislation and Statutory Interpretation. He also served as a legal extern with a large regional law firm’s governmental affairs practice group during Nevada’s 2011 legislative session.
Mr. McDonald is licensed to practice law in the states of Nevada and Washington.
