Study: Keeping Government Work In-House Saves Taxpayer Dollars

A recent study by the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) lays waste to the mistaken “conventional wisdom” that governments can save money by contracting out services to private firms.  POGO compared the compensation paid to federal employees with the billing rates for contract employees across 35 occupational classifications covering over 500 service activities.  The study concluded that governments pay “billions more annually in taxpayer dollars to hire contractors than it would to hire [government] employees to perform comparable services.”  In fact, governments pay contractors nearly TWICE as much for services than they would to government employees.  You can read the full study by clicking here.  Don’t let your local government waste your tax dollars by outsourcing services.
