Costa Mesa Voters Reject Charter Measure

Voters in the city of Costa Mesa have rejected Measure M, which would have made Costa Mesa a charter city.  The Measure was launched by anti-Union groups as a way to make it easier for the City to privatize a huge number of City services.  By privatizing those services, half the City’s workers were facing layoffs, and cuts to pay and benefits.  By rejecting the Measure, voters have insured that Costa Mesa will remain a general law city.  As a general law city, Costa Mesa will be prohibited from privatizing most services.

This was a significant win for Unions because it preserved jobs for dedicated civil servants, along with the wages and benefits they have fought so hard for.
