Justice Department Settles Case with E-Verify Employer for E-Verify Violations

The Justice Department announced that it had reached a settlement agreement with Diversified Maintenance Systems LLC, a provider of janitorial and facilities maintenance services.  The settlement resolves allegations that the employer violated the law when it failed to allow an employee to properly challenge a non-confirmation result provided by E-Verify. The non-confirmation result from E-Verify got the employee fired. Then the employer denied him his lawful right to appeal and correct this erroneous non-confirmation.  To settle,  the employer paid $6,800 in back pay and interest to the employee, as well as $2,000 in civil penalties.
