California Governor Approves Medi-Cal for Undocumented Children in SB 4, “Health For All Kids”

On October 9, Governor Brown signed SB 4, a bill that expands Medi-Cal eligibility to all children, regardless of immigration status.  The bill follows up on a previous budget action aimed at providing such coverage for immigrant children.  Senate Bill 10, which is expected to advance next year, will include a provision to cover undocumented adults.  Laws that give undocumented people access to preventative care help avoid the costly and ineffective use of emergency services to treat commonplace, preventable conditions.
